Not for a while, but I think this will be rather fantastic..

Ladyfest Totally Unplugged

Caroline Martin: www.myspace.com/carolinemartinsmalldog
“Caroline Martin's songs are dark insular, crisp and inspiring, as if she were a lost love child of Leonard Cohen. Or maybe she's that girl from the valley that Bonnie Prince Billy is always out on his horse searching for but never finds. Caroline Martin's pedigree is in no doubt."

Rachael Dadd: www.rachaeldadd.co.uk
“Beneath Dadd's ever-beaming, amiable exterior lies the author of a deft, charismatic brand of folk music that carries a subtle sting all of its own.”

Rasha Shaheen: www.rasha.co.uk
“A captivating and enigmatic performer with a gloriously historic disdain for convention”

Poppy: www.myspace.com/poppyandfriends
West country folk with a twang of Americana, and a slice of London; Poppy weaves off-kilter tales of urban life with the sweetest folk melodies.

Lacuna: www.myspace.com/lacunasounds
“Looping harmony and melody, allied to unconventional instrumentation, make this thoroughly modern folk music, but a Vashti Bunyan-like pastoralism and more traditional combinations like the guitar/glockenspiel on 'Heart Song' means there's more than enough here for the purists.”

Tuesday 28th August
7.30pm, £4 on the door
The Lansdown, 8 Clifton Road

This event is part of Ladyfest Bristol 2007: 27th Aug – 2nd Sept

My dream has been realised: I'm playing at Ladyfest (as a Lacuna auxiliary), and am therefore technically a lady.

I've never been to The Lansdown.  This situation really needs to change!

More bumps.

Get there early because Lacuna is on at 8pm and Venue described her as "one of the finds of the year" in their preview! :D

Can I make an advance request that someone speaks to the landlord about opening the windows between sets?  I gets so bloody hot in there, especially if it's like it is today (actually, maybe lots of sweaty ladies could be a good thing....but no, fresh air wins)

No promises re.windows, but hopefully we can keep the fire door open as it won't be too noisy..

The Lansdown are normally more than happy for you to open the fire door yourself in between sets to let some air through, it's just it has to be closed again when the music's on.  As Jess says this evening might be different but I'd imagine you might prefer the door closed to keep the noise from the garden out given the nature of the performance.

That's my oar stuck in.

Aye, I know, I did say between sets.  I wasn't the only one who found it really hot there for the last LadyFest gig.  FWIW, I've been to gigs there before in summer (last summer I think) where the windows were open during the music as well.  Depends on whose playing I guess.

Anyhowwwww, TONIGHT, yes!

Oh my giddy aunt, that was very very good (and hot, as predicted!).

Highlights were (obviously everything was great but...)

Being totally converted to Rachel Dadd's music.  Never have I changed my opinion so completely on a musician, 180o turn on that one!
Caroline Martin's entire set, but especially the cover of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'.  I zoned out so many times, there may have be drool.

Lacuna, Poppy and Rasha were great too.

I bought a LadyFest badge, and I don't even "do" badges

What a lush gig.

Lacuna should definitely work with the rarg's again.

All of Poppy's songs seem to be about one night stands, so we reckon she's a bit of a goer!

Rasha melted my heart again.

Rachel Dadd has such a pretty voice.

Caroline Martin's songs are downbeat but uplifting at the same time. A jewel.

It was indeed a very good evening.  Caroline is always a pleasure to watch.  Her set is totally captivating and I particularly enjoyed her cover of Roger Tarry’s ‘Walk with me’ even though she did need to consult Rog on a couple of the lyrics during the track.  Good work everyone involved.

I enjoyed all the performances very much. Agree that Lacuna worked really well with the extra members. Poppy is lovely as anything. Rachael Dadd has the most amazing voice and Caroline Martin was just fantastic, especially Jolene which was rather heart breaking..

There was a lady crawling about (literally) with a fancy SLR camera.  Wasn't she there on "official bussiness"?

Some photos in todays venue, not great ones though, they should employ Rabid Pounder, he'd do a much better job! (and no, I'm not bitter at all about the bad review!)
