fact fans are very proud to presentCats & Cats & Cats Safetyword This Town Needs Guns Three Trapped TigersThe Junction8pm, 7th SeptStokes Croft, Bristol £6/£5 NUS/£4 adv from www.bristolticketshop.co.uk Cats & Cats & CatsKind of like prog but with out the solos or bad haircuts, the kentish five piece have massive ideas which reveal themselves in massive songs full of lush instrumentation and a wry poeticism. Possibly what 65daysofstatic would sound like if they had a vocalist and a violinist, or maybe what chart music would sound like if everyone just stopped reading the NME and buying what they play on Radio 1. Suffice to say this is gorgeous stuff and for once the word ‘epic’ truly applies. "High quality, quirky songs with inspired lyrics and unbounded ideas" Spill "Brutally dynamic and beautifully schizophrenic meanderings masquerading as songs" This is fake DIY "A Mew that likes flowers and girls in red dresses and stuff" drownedinsound www.myspace.com/catsandcatsandcatsSafetywordThe most technically brilliant pop band ever, who don’t let great ideas, complicated changes and superb musicianship get in the way of knocking out the kind of tunes that dance their complicated rhythm round your head for days on end. “Medieval skronk poppers Safetyword are a tumbling, morphing brainwarp of a band” Norman Records “The ultimate brew of all your favorite bands, ever. A rainbow-coloured thunderbolt of unforeseen joy” Drowned in Sound “Music like this is made not to be defined, just listened to” XFM “Freakish, technicolour, musical sideshow they may just offer you the world in a band” Venue Magazine “There is something unearthly odd about the sound of this band. Think Captain Beefheart in Armenia in the 5th c. as a monk adding some jazz mastery in the rhythm section and Safetyword are here!” Decode www.myspace.com/safetywordmusic This Town Needs GunsTruck Festival veterans and Big Scary Monsters signees, the five piece tread the line between post-rock and indie pop with consumate ease and an engaging sound. “TTNG are quite possibly the best band to band to come out of Oxford since Radiohead, and definitely one of the cleverest. You need them more than any amount of guns." High Voltage ”Quite simply brilliant.” - Drowned in sound “Not quite emotional enough to be emo and not quite hard enough to be hardcore, TTNG produce a heady mix of clattering drums and quiet bits and loud bits and intensity." New Noise www.myspace.com/thistownneedsgunsThree Trapped TigersFormer members of the sadly missed Optimist Club combine with piano genius Tom Robinson to create some truly mental arrangements to Tom’s almost-but-not-quite jazz compositions. Their gig at an all dayer last year left jaws firmly on the floor as did their set at the Latitude Festival. www.myspace.com/threetrappedtigersffinfo: www.myspace.com/factfans www.myspace.com/thejunctionbristol I know it's ages away but it's never too soon to start telling people I guess.....

Aye, as did I, I was pretty impressed, especially considering how they were all crammed on that tiny stage (take note The Wurzels)

I missed Cats on the Bandstand (cos I was watching the excellent Birdengine... possibly the only person on the festival site agonising over that particular clash...) and I didn't know they'd got the backstage Theatre one.
So this sounds like a good opportunity to see them after all!

Very funny and rather upsetting at the same time.
Thanks for unnecessarily helping the bump process, DJSW.

Drat, I thought that was on the 8th for some reason and in being so, might give me an opportunity to get back from Wales in time to pop along - alas. Maybe I'll just pop out for a pint and a game of pool. Gig clash city returns, a sure sign of the industriousness of Autumn that I love.
